Primarily a vocal mic, the D55 provides wide 80Hz to 18kHz frequency response and a hypercardioid polar pattern. A hypercardioid pattern is perfect for stage applications because it picks up sound from a smaller "tighter" area than a typical cardioid mic. This means that you avoid most of the feedback problems that can occur in high-gain stage environments. Monitors won't easily feedback through the mic, so you can get them set to higher levels — and that makes everyone's job easier.
